I Challenge You!

Some people come into your life as a blessing. Some come into your life as lessons “What is your super power?” I jokingly asked my daughter Kaitlin one day. “My super power is kindness,” was her reply. I affirmed her with “Of course it is, Kaitlin!” She will always be our, kindhearted, baby girl, even if she is all grown up. She is the daughter who sends us flowers on her birthday, gives without asking for something in return, and always says thank you. Her gifts include something meaningful, and often she gives quality time which is my favorite gift of all. Amanda discovered a website, http://www.kindspring.org/ which was established to promote kind deeds. Another of my…

Choose Love: A Political Story That Ends Well

Today was Election Day, an important Election Day at that.  I live in Georgia, and our midterm elections were a big deal this year.  We’re typically a red state, but the progression of politics in the past few years has swayed our votes quite a bit, and the results have shown in the primaries.  Now, our gubernatorial race is a tight one between Democrat Stacey Abrams and Republican Brian Kemp.  While the election is stressful for members of both parties, it did get a record number of voters to the polls.  However, this led to some record-breaking lines. As civically engaged as I am, I unfortunately have not yet reached voting age.  Therefore, I do what I can to make…

A Prayer

A Prayer  If there is darkness, may I shine in the light of radiant hope   If my days are bad, may I find joy in the little things in life And if I am sad, give me the grace of good humor   If there is hatred, don’t take the beauty of my heart And if I hold on to anger, let me realize the power of compassion   If there is pain, give me the strength to endure But if life seems unjust, give me the courage to be true   If I am hurt, teach me to forgive And if jealousy overwhelms, give me the wisdom to love unconditionally   If I carry regrets, may I find…

Be Kind To Yourself – Take That Pause

One cold evening, as I sat relaxed sipping a warm cup of tea, I experienced a nice friendly feeling – a sense of pristine calmness and appreciation of a divine and beautiful moment. And so just this small incident, got me thinking about our present day lives, which has come to be so dominated by the machine centered demands of the day. We don’t run technology any more. In fact, it is technology that is running us. We are controlled by it 24/7. Having this immense need to be connected to the world outside us, we are constantly checking on our messages, emails, and other updates. Even if we do get some free time our thoughts keep us occupied, planning…

The Importance of Self-Kindness

I have been struggling with postpartum anxiety. It is really hard to deal with, and even harder to admit. However, I started seeing a therapist a little over a month ago, and so far, she has been immensely helpful. One thing she has taught me is how important it is to take care of, and be kind to, yourself. If you aren’t kind to yourself, it is a lot harder to be kind to others. So, below I am going to share some tips to help you be kind to yourself. Hopefully, if you’re struggling, these tips will help you, like they have helped me. 1. Positive Affirmation We use positive affirmation with children, spouses, family and friends to help…

The Tree of Hope – A short story

t was a warm sunny summer day. The soft rays of the sun fell on the freshly mowed grass. The lilies and dandelions swayed to and fro in the gentle breeze. Nearby, a slow stream of water moved lazily through the rocks creating a melodious sound. The trees were lush green and the blooming flowers boasted of their lovely color and fragrance. The birds and squirrels seemed to be enjoying their awakening to this beautiful day. All appeared happy and gay. But there – right in the centre of this luscious field, stood a lonely tree. It was a tree that bore no leaves, fruits or flowers. Passersby often remarked, “What an odd tree. Look at its long curvy weird…
